Q&A with Tricia Daniels – Women’s History Month

Celebrating Women’s History Month, we want to highlight the women who work at the Partnership and their achievements, motivations, and more!

This month, we want to highlight the women who work at the Partnership, who continue to be committed to catalyzing equitable economic solutions for our communities and beyond. This post features Tricia Daniels, our Chief Administrative Officer.

Q: When did you join the Partnership and what initially encouraged you to join the team?

I joined the Partnership in March 2021. What encouraged me was the regional aspect of GWP and of course, the impressive Board. Also, I love working with small organizations that can quickly make changes, make an impact. I also love using many skill sets – accounting, operations, process improvement, compliance, etc. I just love wearing many “hats.”

Q: What motivates you to jump out of bed and get to work each morning?

That everyday is different!

Q: The theme for International Women’s Day on March 8 was “Break the Bias”. How have you helped to break the bias through your work — either at the Partnership or in another role/environment?

In many ways, such as – “you don’t act like an accountant”, “you don’t look like an accountant.” When I made partner at Deloitte, only 4% of the partners in my area – (Financial Advisory Services) were woman. The ratio of women to men at the entry level was 50%/50%, and then increased to almost 60%/40% women to men.

Q: Looking back at your accomplishments, what is your biggest personal highlight during your tenure at the Partnership?

The budget meeting – I felt like the leadership team came together to figure out a solution. We work well together – everyone was willing to give out a little to reach our overall objective. I love seeing a team work together and be productive where everyone is part of the solution – we own it together!

Q: What has surprised you about working at the Partnership?

Our resilience as a team and our ability to work through any challenges! There have been many changes and obstacles this past year and we have become better because of them.

Q: How have you evolved as a colleague/leader/professional since joining Partnership? How has the pandemic impacted your work or leadership style?

Having to work on my patience. I see everything that needs to be done and a pathway to get there, and I realize we are a small team and things take time. Regarding changes due to pandemic, I work best side-by-side, quick pace – having to Zoom and share screens is never as quick as sitting side by side and getting a project done together. Additionally, I am a people person, so I missed the personal interaction from just being in the same room with someone.

Q: If you could snap your fingers and solve any issue or hurdle you’ve encountered in the Capital Region, what would it be and why?

The traffic to/from Tysons, I feel it creates a division. Why can you get to Tysons in the morning from MD or DC in 20-30 minutes, but the nightly commute is 1 hour to 1.5 hours!

Q: What is your favorite activity / place around the Capital Region?

So many!  1) Nats game 2) Caps game 3) walking the Mall and seeing the monuments 4) driving on Rock Creek Parkway.
