For the past two years, the Partnership has collaborated with Monumental Sports & Entertainment to host an annual Emerging Tech Talent (ETT) Scholar Career and Game Day at Capital One Arena, allowing recipients to learn about in-demand skills and network with technology industry professionals. In October 2023, Monumental hosted 17 ETT Scholars from American University, Bowie State University, Marymount University, Trinity Washington University, the University of the District of Columbia, Virginia Commonwealth University and Virginia Tech at Capital One Arena.
Following a private, behind-the-scenes tour of the arena, the students participated in a career panel featuring professionals from the sports, business and technology industries. Panelists Adannaya Kanu, Senior Solutions Cyber Consultant at Deloitte; Crispus Gordon, Director of Government Affairs at Monumental; Kameron Florence, Vice President of Ticket Sales and Service for the Washington Wizards; and Venoth Lal, Director of Cyber Security Services at KPMG, shared stories from their professional journeys, with a focus on how technology impacts their work. After the panel, the students could connect directly with speakers before receiving tickets to a Washington Capitals game.
Since 2021, Greater Washington Partnership has championed over 361 Emerging Tech Talent Scholarships for undergraduate students across the region. The scholarship supports learners from underrepresented populations in the tech workforce by equipping them with skills for careers in technology, such as cybersecurity, data analytics and software development. The Partnership supports scholarship recipients by offering programming that provides them exposure to the region’s top employers.
