On September 30, the Capital CoLAB hosted its second annual Digital Tech Career Fair, one of our marquee events to connect Capital Region employers with CoLAB university students as they begin their search for internships and entry level roles. The event directly supports CoLAB’s mission to build the Capital Region’s diverse digital tech ecosystem by partnering with employers and educators to advance inclusive growth.
During the event, students engaged with employers spanning industries, geographies, and size. They gained perspective on tech and tech adjacent job opportunities and learned about the skill sets they need to thrive in today’s increasingly digital economy. Career Fairs are perfect environments for students to research companies and learn more about the organizations and company culture in a one-on-one setting while also honing their interview and communication skills. In addition, students had the chance to network and make lasting impressions with potential employers. We recognize that interviewing in a virtual environment requires a unique set of skills and know-how and encouraged students to prepare by providing resources and best practices. By attending our Digital Tech Career Fair, students are better equipped to handle whatever may come their way in the virtual recruitment environment!
Additionally, the Digital Tech Career Fair benefited our employer partners in the Capital Region as they gained access to multiple universities’ student talent pools all in one place. Attending employers represented industries spanning from government contractors, financial institutions, and leading tech companies. Employers gleaned meaningful insights into the future workforce and what career pathways students are pursuing by connecting with students.
With events like the Digital Tech Career Fair, the Capital CoLAB is dedicated to our goal of creating the most diverse and well-equipped tech ecosystem in the nation. Employers from across all industries are looking to hire students from a range of educational backgrounds with the foundational digital skills needed to thrive in today’s economy.
The Capital CoLAB, in partnership with employers and academic institutions from across the Capital Region, created the Digital Tech Credential Program. This unique program provides students with digital literacy skills through their existing college curriculum that employers are seeking. Students select a pathway of courses that aligns with their major or minor, and upon completion of the pathway, they receive a digital badge. The digital badge indicates to employers that the student has completed the pathway and can be proudly displayed across several mediums such as LinkedIn, Handshake, and more. This badge is recognized by many Capital Region employers and signifies that the student has foundational tech skills and is prepared to enter the workforce. There are two pathways, The Generalist and the Specialist Credentials. The Generalist Credential shows that students have a general knowledge of data analysis, visualization, and data security. The Specialist Credential shows that students know specialized technical skills such as cybersecurity, machine learning, and data analytics. Students also have access to the Career Fair, engagements with employers, specially curated content for networking, resume templates, and more!
The program is free to all partnering CoLAB university students and enrollment is easy. You can visit our website to learn more about the Credential Program and join our CoLAB community today!
