In 2023, with seed funding from the Truist Foundation, the Greater Washington Partnership launched the Next Level accelerator program in collaboration with 1863 Ventures to support underrepresented entrepreneurs across the region. In its inaugural cohort, 15 Black and Brown entrepreneurs from Maryland, DC, and Virginia gained customized tools, coaching, and instruction to better articulate their value propositions, target markets, navigate competitive contract opportunities, and secure sustainable capital.
With the expansive network of the Partnership’s leading employers, Next Level uniquely positioned participants to connect with essential financial, social, and technical capital across the region. Throughout the program, the Partnership facilitated one-on-one connections with supplier diversity/ procurement executives, establishing valuable relationships with potential to support future business opportunities.
Key outcomes for this first cohort included:
- 83% of participants reported feeling better prepared to navigate RFPs and contracting opportunities with prospective buyers.
- 75% gained a stronger understanding of effective marketing strategies for their businesses.
- 60% received referrals for contract opportunities, while 33% earned funding referrals.
- Over 80 new connections were made between participants and Partnership’s corporate network, offering potential business leads and support.
