Q: When did you join the Partnership and what initially encouraged you to join the team?
I joined the Partnership in August 2021. I wanted to dedicate my job to promoting inclusive economic growth, because I believe that if you can allocate equitable economic opportunity to everyone, then you give individuals and families a foundation to build safe, secure, and rewarding lives that create positive dividends for the communities they live in.
Q: What motivates you to jump out of bed and get to work each morning?
Knowing that I’m making a difference, even if it’s through small steps. Also, being able to engage directly with those most impacted by policies and practices in our region is rewarding and humbling.
Q: The theme for International Women’s Day on March 8 was “Break the Bias”. How have you helped to break the bias through your work — either at the Partnership or in another role/environment?
In my previous role, I worked on combatting this exact issue by supporting private-sector workshops focused on identifying and reducing gender bias to promote equity in the workplace.
Q: Looking back at your accomplishments, what is your biggest personal highlight during your tenure at the Partnership?
The launch of the Supplier Diversity Leadership Roundtables!
Q: What has surprised you about working at the Partnership?
The energy! It’s refreshing to work with such motivated, passionate, kind, and fun people. There’s definitely a start-up feel to our organization that allows us to freely draw up ideas and also clean the slate and start anew.
Q: How have you evolved as a colleague/leader/professional since joining Partnership? How has the pandemic impacted your work or leadership style?
In the short time I’ve been at the Partnership, I’ve been empowered me to use my voice and that’s propelled me to lead more initiatives and propose unique ideas. When you’re in a supportive work environment, a perfectionist like myself gets the chance to fearlessly make, learn, and grow from my mistakes, and I’m grateful to be able to take more risks and step out of my comfort zone. The pandemic has forced me to find more balance between work and life and to bring a more fulfilled version of myself to my job by investing in non-work priorties.
Q: If you could snap your fingers and solve any issue or hurdle you’ve encountered in the Capital Region, what would it be and why?
Homelessness. Even though that’s not necessarily specific to this region, I don’t think anyone should have to sleep or live without shelter, heat/AC, food, healthcare, or should have to live in fear when you don’t have a safe and private space to go to each day. For me, homelessness is the most acute and daily reminder of disparities in our community and in our country.
Q: What is your favorite activity / place around the Capital Region?
I love the diversity and welcoming nature of my neighborhood – Mt. Pleasant. I also love seeing the monuments at night because having that view will never get old and gets me excited all over again that I live in the nation’s capital.
